What is the Junior Section?

The Junior Section (juniors) is our second section and is for boys and girls aged between 8 and 11
(School Years 4, 5 and 6).

How long do they meet for?
The weekly section meeting is held on a Monday evening from 6.30pm to 8.00pm in the BB Centre, Bexleyheath Broadway, between Christ Church and Asda.

What do they do?
Juniors have fun! Their meetings are crammed full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that they themselves have suggested. There are hundreds of activities catering for just about every possible interest. At the same time we try to encourage them to explore other new interests. There is loads of variety and little chance of becoming bored!
The award programme is specifically designed to encourage a child to look beyond themselves. Many are interested in one type of activity - perhaps sports, or natural history. Our special programme provides for such interests and at the same time gently urges them to try others of a different type. This provides a balanced all round programme - which includes spiritual and social input, as well as physical and adventure activities in 5 different programme zones . . .

  • Body - fit for fun
  • Mind - think and do
  • Spirit - God and me
  • Community - me and my world
  • Creativity - make and do

Juniors is about . . .

  • having fun
  • making friends
  • enjoying lots of activities
  • trying new things

Through the many different activities, Juniors will . . .

  • learn about themselves
  • get to know people and learn to work together
  • explore their community
  • personally develop

Why Juniors?
Juniors are developing rapidly. Between the ages of 8 and 11, there are big changes in a child's mental, emotional, social and physical development. However, all children are different and have a variety of needs. The relationships we form with children at this age can be important in assisting them to achieve a sound sense of personal and group identity.

Juniors Activities

The Juniors Activity Programme provides an informal award scheme. This means boys and girls will gain their awards as they take part in the usual programme activities.

image003
The Junior Target Award requires 5 activities, one from each of the five zones and is usually awarded shortly after joining the Junior Section.

image004
The Junior Bronze Award requires 10 activities with at least one from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 8/9.

image005
The Junior Silver Award requires 20 activities with at least three from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 9/10.

image006
The Junior Gold Award requires 20 activities with at least three from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 10/11.

In order to get all 4 awards a boy or girl needs to complete a total of 55 activities over three years. It does not matter what age your child joins at since they will join in with others their same age and participate at their own level. There is no judgment about how well they have done, all that is required is to join in and try their best.
In addition, Juniors will earn a service badge which shows how many years they have been a member for. A Junior who has been with The Boys' Brigade since 5 years old can earn up to 6 years service.
